2023 Health Trends We Are Watching
what should you expect from 2023?
The world is a very different place than it was ten years ago, and nowhere is this more evident than in the health and wellness industry.
But how do we think this is going to change in the following year? What trends from 2022 will be carried onto new year?
Not long ago, the notion of health & wellness was simply thought of as a mix of one’s physical fitness and diet. However, the definition of wellness is changing (for the better!). Through all the trends that have accumulated over 2022, it has now become evident that wellness is much more far-reaching and dynamic – it is a compilation of our physical, mental and emotional health – and that looks different for each person.
The good news is that based on the 2023 health trends that we are expecting, it seems that the global health and wellness industry is listening!
2023 is bound to be all about self-care, boosting your mental and physical health through various avenues, and a focus on self-actualisation.
One of the main things that we are expecting to see is a change in sleeping patterns. According to 2023 trends, going to bed may be the new ‘working through the night’. Not only are expecting a push for circadian health and earlier bedtimes, but we are seeing an emphasis on earlier dinners and in-depth skincare and evening routines.
It is with no doubt that we are going to see a deeper focus on mental health & wellness in the workplace too. Increasing research depicts increased rates of employee stress and burnout. We can expect more businesses prioritising employee mental health and workplace wellness in 2023. This may include remote schedules, fitness in the workplace, nutrition education, and access to healthy foods. Due to the busy, never-ending nature of the ‘working-hard’ mentality adopted by so many of us, burnout and exhaustion has risen in 2022. Consequently, we can expect a greater importance and urgency placed on workplace mental health and wellbeing processes.

In 2022, we witnessed, through various social media platforms and the internet, a growing interest and exploration in gut & immune health. It is with no surprise that digestive health and immune health remain two of the biggest wellness topics. Various trends and hacks went viral in 2022 and it is with no doubt, that this trend will continue over onto the next year! So, expect gut-healthy foods and immune-boosting foods to soar in popularity even more and fly off the shelves. While there are tons of healthy options on the current market, watch out for new product release and new health hacks in 2023!
Another trend that is undoubtedly sticking by us this year is at-home self-care and beauty. While it was probably the most trending topic in 2022, 2023 will continue boosting overall self-care and wellness hacks that are quick, simple, effective and can be done from the comfort of your own home. We can expect an array of categories such as collagen supplementation, scalp-care and a continuation of the frenzy surrounding facial massages and jaw sculpting.

but what trends can we expect to fade away from 2022 as the new approaches us?
Trends in the beauty world change and shift constantly but preferences aside, 2022 has been a year of countless introductions to new trends and hacks. Since the new year is a fresh start for many of us, it is also time to leave specific practices behind!
One of the trends of 2022 that we are expecting to decline (for the better) in 2023 is at-home micro-needling. This viral Tik-Tok trend can become extremely harmful to your skin and cause micro-injuries in your dermis. By making small holes in your face or scalp, you are exposing yourself to infections, especially since the needles are being reused and most likely not cleaned to the expected standard. In other words, this should be left to the professionals…
In a similar way, I think it is fair to say that we will see a decrease in the overuse and overreliance of Tik Tok trends and social media hacks for beauty and wellness advice. Of course, there have been several trends in the Tik Tok realm that are accurate and beneficial to many people, but there is a vast array of information on social media that is incorrect that needs to be discredited. In 2023, we are expecting a deeper consideration and reliance on professional, expert advice for all things health & wellness. Perhaps more professionals will digitise their knowledge and expertise on such platforms to share and educate viewers on certain topics.
